So the 2017/2018 Australian budget has been released today (Tuesday 9th May 2017). As anticipated from the train of Immigration announcements in the last a couple of weeks, a few details have been clarified.

New Visa Application Charges come into effect on 1st July 2017.

The increases are not that significant as most have been indexed in line with the forecast Consumer Price Index (CPI) and rounded to the nearest $5.

If you were an employer sponsoring foreign workers on the 457 Temporary Skilled Visa or the ENS (Employer Nomination Scheme) Subclass 186, you would be familiar with the “Training Benchmark”. From March 2018, the new “Skilling Australians Fund Levy” will apply. Instead of paying either 1% or 2% of your business’ payroll, this levy will be calculated per foreign worker.

Small businesses (turnover less than $10M) will have to pay $1,200 per year per Temporary Visa foreign worker and $3,000 once-off per Permanent Visa foreign worker.

Medium and large businesses (turnover $10M or more) will have to pay $1,800 per year per Temporary Visa foreign worker and $5,000 once-off per Permanent Visa foreign worker.
