Its official Thai Food is the best food in the world, so good even Captain America has it on his list of things he needs to try! Seriously though, migrants and tourist always say that the thing they miss most about Thailand is the food. I’m Thai and I love food! So here is another “in my opinion” post looking at my favourite Thai Restaurants in Perth (North of the River and in the Central Business District/Northbridge) (If you do not know the geography of Perth yet, stay tuned as I ll write a blog on how to get around Perth for migrants soon)
So in no particular order:
1. Pad Thai – 17B Wanneroo Rd, Joondanna WA 6060 (Moderately Priced)
This place made the the urban top list in the Western Australian paper a few years back and lives up to the name, with great Pad Thai. They also serve a good range of food and their chef’s speciality is their seafood hotpot. However my favourite dish from this place is the Sago and rock melon in coconut milk desert!
2. Thai Esarn – 1 Beechboro Rd S, Bayswater WA 6053 (Moderately Priced)
This is my husband’s favourite restaurant, conveniently located near the Bayswater train station. Do not let the appearance of the place stop you from trying it. This place has some authentic north-eastern Thai food including great Larb Gai, Esarn Sausage, Papaya Salad with Crab and Sticky Rice and my husband’s favourite the Namtok Beef.
3. Thailicious – 160 James St, Northbridge WA 6003 (Cheap Lunches)
A perfect place to eat right near the cultural epicentre of Northbridge. This restaurant serves some of the best Thai lunch specials in town. Their Beef Basil Stir Fry is one of my dad’s staple food choices. Highly recommended for if your in the area.
4. S & T Thai Gourmet Cafe – 347 William St, Northbridge WA 6003 (Cheap Eats)
This restaurant has been a local eatery for students for a long time and is a favourite amongst those that love to have their Thai Pet (HOT!). The food here ranges from moderately hot to burn your eye lids off hot and comes with a bottomless rice option to help you calm the heat! The Red Duck Curry here is the bomb!
5. Itsara – 25 Stirling Hwy, Nedlands WA 6009 (Fine Dining)
Itsara is a contemporary Thai establishment that mixes the traditional bold Thai flavours that you love with a modern, hip environment and bar. This restaurant is a little pricier than the other places but is one classy joint. The food and service is also top notch and you could easily find yourself pairing the lovely wines they have on menu with their fresh tasty take on Thai food using their own home grown vegetables.
6. Red Opium – 21/326 Hay St, Perth WA 6000 (Fine Dining)
The name sounds like a drug den, but the place is beautifully decorated but hard to find. This restaurant takes a bold approach to modern Thai food, serving it tapas style in an intimate exotic atmosphere. The F Duck Curry is Fantastic! However, please be sure to book a seat as this restaurant has been known to be booked out for months. The staff are perfectionists here so expect good food and good service.
7. Dusit Thai – 249 James St, Northbridge WA 6003 (Moderately Priced)
Dusit Thai is one of the longest running, high class Thai Restaurants in Perth. This place tries to stick to the traditional Thai food you know and love and even have their wait staff wear traditional Thai garments to match.
8. Bangkok on William – 3/440 William St, Perth WA 6000 (Moderately Priced)
A relatively new establishment this restaurant is making a name for itself, serving traditional Thai food in a very well presented restaurant. The food here is spot on and has some great Thai food hard to find in Perth, my favourite dish here has to be the Khao Kha Moo (Stewed Pork Leg with Rice). This restaurant is definitely one to watch and try.
The good thing about Perth is that there are quite a lot of Thai Restaurants to choose from, I have definitely not tried all of them. These are just a few of my favourites that are near where I live.
