A bridging visa is a special visa granted to those migrants who have lodged an application for a new visa whilst in Australia to cover them whilst they await the processing of the application.
Many visas are not able to be applied for if you are solely holding a bridging visa. However, there are some exceptions to this and you may be able to apply for some certain visas onshore.
Also note that many bridging visas contain work and travel restriction clauses.
